IN AN IDEAL LOCATION
Established in the inland area of the Boulonnais region, the VMAD is located just 18km from Boulogne-sur-Mer and the Côte d’Opale, less than 40 minutes from Le Touquet, 90 minutes from Lille and 2.5 hours from Paris. It is also close to England (Channel Tunnel 40km away) and Belgium (border less than 100km away). Exhaustive road and rail networks facilitate mobility: A16, A26, Channel Tunnel, TGV, Eurostar.
A MULTI-FACETED SETTING
The surrounding wooded site, the green landscaping and the forest close by make the VMAD a haven of nature and a very pleasant work setting.
Sea (Côte d’Opale), seaside resorts (Le Touquet, Hardelot), hilly landscapes, villages (Desvres and the Community’s 30 member municipalities) and towns (Boulogne-sur-Mer, Saint-Omer) offer a varied lifestyle catering for all tastes and requirements.
HISTORICAL PRESENCE OF KNOW-HOW IN CERAMICS
For 250 years, Desvres has been home to activities relating to clay. A recipient of the ‘Ville et Métiers d’Art’ label, Desvres is a member of the Association of French Ceramic Cities. In Desvres and neighbouring villages, two SMEs and ten or so artisan studios (modellers, faience decorators, potters, ceramists) blend tradition and innovation to create unique pieces or produce small series. For the last twenty years, the ceramics museum has also provided the impetus of exhibitions.
A REGION THAT IS INVOLVED IN CREATION AND DESIGN
The Municipality of Desvres and the Community of Municipalities of Desvres Samer have long promoted cooperation between craft professionals and designers with initiatives such as artists’ residences, participation in Lille Capitale Européenne de la Culture, presentation of a ceramic loft apartment at Maison & Objet, to name but a few.
