What is a craft professional ?

The VMAD incubator is specifically reserved for professionals in the field of crafts. It is for professionals who are categorised in the official nomenclature of crafts professions, which incorporates over 217 trades spread over 19 sectors:

floral art/performing arts/popular arts and traditions/graphic arts/mechanical arts-games-toys/jewellery-silverware-clockmaking/wood/leather/decoration/instrument making/lighting/metal/trades related to architecture/fashion/stone working/ intricate ornamental work /ceramics/textiles/glass.

A craft professional must be able to:

  • Apply complex skills to work their materials.
  • Produce unique or small-series services or objects that present an artistic character.
  • Master the craft in its totality.

Craft professionals may work for the conservation and restoration of the heritage or in the field of design. Trades of yesterday and today, the craft professions are first and foremost trades of tomorrow. A thriving environment in perpetual evolution that constantly awakens passions and creates vocations.

Today, there are over 38,000 craft enterprises in France. Some work in fields that are very familiar to the public such as cabinetmaking or jewellery making.
